Smell, Savour, Taste. Linger and devoutly determine the character of fine wines.
Where else could you better enjoy doing that than in the unique and world-famous wine village Caldaro; embedded in a seductive landscape with over 20 different types of grape.
Elegant in the wine cellar; rustic in the stone cellar, your host and experienced sommelier Franz Moser initiates you into the mysteries of wine.
When ruby-red glimmers in the glasses, the world will watch.
Just like the Mediterranean,
is what you hear everywhere. Both local residents and visitors agree when asked what it's like in Kaltern am See - also known as Caldaro al Lago, which makes it a place with more than one name and many different faces. Coming from the north, there really is so much southern flair that hits right after crossing the Brenner Pass.
Still a few spruce, larch and pine but yet also palms. And they're deep in the soil, not in pots. Cypress, fig and olive trees. And then the vineyards, which is the last bit of evidence needed to prove: You're in the south.
Deep, blue water is always extolled. But the Kalterer Lake is green. The landscape around the lake is green. The air reflects tones of green. Every shade of green, forest green, vine green, field green, reed green... " and there it lies, a mirror of green". A. Komarek
Mediterranean flair, rowing boats, sailing boats, paddle boats and surf boards glide by. Otherwise, it is peaceful; except, for the laugh of children, who are in paradise.
It's beautiful in the lake, on the lake and all around the lake.

Biotope Kalterer See
Lake Kalterer See is the largest natural lake in South Tyrol. The entire wetland is a natural paradise, so much so that has been made part of the Natura 2002 European network of protected areas. The belt of reeds at the southern end of the lake has been placed under natural biotope protection by the regional South Tyrolean government. It offers food, shelter and refuge to numerous species of fish, amphibians, water insects and birds; it also provide a safe spawning ground, breeding place and resting stop.
The Market Square
"Kaltern is one, big open-air theater" H. Hochrein
The people all have totally different personalities, there are no two alike. And this fact is worth studying. The best time is the morning, when your mind is still quite fresh. And the best place is Kaltern's main village market square. Just simply observe, with perhaps a cup of espresso, and - slow down the pace a bit.
Enjoy some ice cream near the fountain, no, here it's called gelato. Or perhaps even a cappuccino. But if you want to continue doing as the locals do in the afternoon, then it should be a glass of lightly chilled Kalterersee wine.
