Passionate wine connoisseurs meetSmell, Savour, Taste. Linger and devoutly determine the character of fine wines.Where else could you better enjoy doing that than in the unique and world-famous wine village Caldaro; embedded in a seductive landscape with over 20 different types of grape.

Elegant in the wine cellar; rustic in the stone cellar, your host and experienced sommelier Franz Moser initiates you into the mysteries of wine. When ruby-red glimmers in the glasses, the world will watch.

Good wine has always been produced in Kaltern – and now it is achieving international recognition. Given this tradition, the local wine producers, along with the whole village, have decided to embark on a new quality offensive project: “wein.kaltern”. The first step was the creation of an internationally protected trademark, which expresses the essence of the community.
The Wellness Hotel Seeleiten belongs to the wein.kaltern Hotels, recognizable through the red point – an visual sign for extraordinary quality in gastronomy and accommodation. At the occasion of weekly wine tasting sessions as well as during the “Kalterer Weintage” in September, wine lovers are invited to explore the outstanding potential of the Caldaro wines. Kalterersee - The wineThe vine The Vernatsch grape – with its numerous varieties is the oldest native red wine variety in South Tyrol and has always been the base grape variety for the most well known of all South Tyrolean red wines, the Kalterersee Wine. Color The Kalterersee ranges from a light, clear red to a strong, shining, deep ruby red color.
Smell Pleasantly fresh and fruity with scents of cherries and currants, as well as the typical almond tones and delicate fragrance of violets.
Taste Dry, smooth and velvety with modest acidity and tannic acid levels; varies from balanced and harmonically mild to distinct, elegant and delicate; due to its strong structure and taste characteristics, it leaves a pleasant and stimulating sensation on the palate.
Storability 1 – 2 years. Suggestions Unlike any other wine, the Kalterersee can be served with almost any dish and is appropriate at almost any occasion. It is especially ideal with a typical South Tyrolean snack of “speck”, sausages and mild cheese varieties. It also goes well with appetizers, pasta dishes and pizza, with cooked and grilled red meat, poultry and of course, with all the tasty and traditional dishes of the local cuisine.
Serving Temperature The Kalterersee is at its best when consumed when it is still young, preferably the year after the vintage. Drink it cool, but not cold; the temperature should be between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius, which is somewhat cooler than most other red wines.
The Wine TrailThe wine trail was strategically created in the shape of an eight, with its crossing point at the PUNKT Winehouse on the village market square, and leads you past vineyards and wine estates all the way to Lake Kaltern. White limestone road markers provide information on the unique names of the vineyards - such as Puntara and Palurisch, Salt and Plantaditsch. There are four resting stops along the way, marked by bronze plated information tables. Suggestion: The South Tyrolean Wine Museum How could it be otherwise? The South Tyrolean Wine Museum has established itself in Kaltern! Innumerable objects impress the visitor with the history and significance of wine in South Tyrol. There are impressive wine presses, wine barrels and other wine production tool and equipment. You will learn informative stories and legends about wine - for example the importance of the “Saltner” as the guards of the vineyards. |
