Carnival Break

In February, masks and music make their way through the villages around Lake Caldaro, and on Shrove Tuesday the Egetmann parade comes to Tramin. Down by the shore, life moves at a gentler pace: the infusion hisses in the sauna house on the lake, and steam rises from the warm pools.
While the children celebrate Carnival in the kids' club, the quiet February lake belongs to the grown-ups. In the evening everyone gathers round one table again, each with a different story from the day – from the parade, the slopes or the lake.
At the hotel and nearby:
- Egetmann parade in Tramin: On Shrove Tuesday, one of the oldest Carnival customs in Tyrol winds through the lanes of the neighbouring village – more than 30 floats, Egetmann Hansl and his bride, and the snapping “Schnappviecher” creatures. The big parade only takes place in odd-numbered years; in the others it’s the children’s turn, and their parade is every bit as lively. Spectators rarely go home without a smudge of soot or a sprinkling of sawdust.
- Carnival in Caldaro and along the Wine Road: There are parades all around – on Saturday in Caldaro, heading for the wineries; on Sunday the “Aurer Maschgra” in Auer; on Tuesday in Girlan. During Carnival, families celebrate on Caldaro’s village square with music and magicians.
- Guided ski trip: Once a week, we head out to the ski areas nearby with a guide. Someone else knows the way – the turns are all yours.
- Lake Sauna: The sauna house on the lakeshore is a winter-only treat. After the infusion, you look out from the warm wood across the lake.
- Ice bathing: If you like cold water, winter offers two options – the unheated natural pool in the garden or, for the experienced, Lake Caldaro right outside the door. The warmth afterwards feels twice as good.
- Warm pools: Families splash about in the indoor pool and the children’s pool, then unwind in their own Family Spa. In the adults-only Spa Sensea, the infinity pool is kept at 34 °C all year round, and the panoramic sauna looks out over the vineyards.
- Kids' club and weekly programme: The children are in good hands at the kids' club. For everyone else there’s the weekly programme, always included: yoga, Pilates, aqua and back exercises, hikes with your hosts and daily sauna infusions.
